The Accident

Polly Bevan is a devoted mother and the loyal wife to local politician Iwan; disaster strikes their town when a construction site collapses, killing a group of children; only Polly's daughter, Leona, survives -- and she might get the blame.

In the tragedy's aftermath, Polly worries that Iwan may be hiding something; Angela gathers the families to fight for justice; as Harriet faces questions at work, her assistant and lover Tim acts to protect her by leaking information.

The inquest opens, and questions are asked -- of Iwan, Alan and Harriet; Polly must choose between her husband and justice when asked to betray Iwan to get the evidence the victims' families need; Harriet's boss gives her an impossible choice.

Harriet is in court for gross negligence manslaughter as the families' private prosecution finally begins; Angela and the others have nearly bankrupted themselves to fund the case; Polly fears for Leona, who wants to give evidence.
