The Yukon is North America’s third longest river, stretching some three thousand kilometres. It’s massive basin drains around 850,000 square kilometres of high North and Arctic terrain. The Yukon’s headwaters are in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The river then traverses the Yukon Territory and angles across Alaska before emptying into the Bering Sea. Multiple First Nations - including the Tagish Kwan,Hän Hwëch'in, Northern and Southern Tutchone - have called the river home for thousands of years.A historic highway for transport and trade, the river is a main artery of this remote Northern landscape.
