A quiet village idyll surrounded by the beautiful forests of the Taunus. But the seemingly ideal world is thrown into turmoil when Tobias Sartorius, who has been released from prison, returns to Altenhain and opens up old wounds that the village community has since pushed to the back of their minds: in a circumstantial trial seven years ago, the then 19-year-old was convicted as the murderer of Stefanie Schneeberger, a girl of the same age. This village beauty, who played the role of Snow White in the school theater at the time, had turned the heads of all the men in Altenhain – among them Gregor Lauterbach, the German teacher at the time. Lauterbach's body is found hanged in the forest shortly after Tobias' return.

During a daycare trip in the forest, little Marie Kerstner disappears without a trace. Inspector Oliver von Bodenstein and his colleague Pia Kirchhoff search the area and come across the body of a suicide victim: senior public prosecutor Hardenbach has shot himself with his hunting rifle in the forest. Is Marie's disappearance connected to Hardenbach's death? Marie's father, veterinarian Michael Kerstner, is worried sick, but he evades questions about his wife. Marie's mother never cared for her child, she was a bad mother, who recently abandoned the small family.

The investigator duo Pia Kirchhoff and Oliver von Bodenstein of the Hofheim CID are faced with a new murder case. A human hand was found in the Kronberg "Opel Zoo". More body parts keep turning up until the rest of the corpse is found a little later. Zoo director, Dr. Christoph Sander, knows the dead man: it is the high school teacher, Hans-Ulrich Pauly, who dedicated his free time to animal and nature conservation and had therefore clashed with Sander many times in the past. The investigation reveals that Pauly, who was apparently beaten to death with a horseshoe, had many enemies: apart from Sander, Pauly was at loggerheads with a number of other people.

The 92-year-old Holocaust survivor David Joshua Goldberg has been executed in his own home in Taunus. The murderer wrote the number "16145" on the hall mirror using his victim's blood. During the autopsy of the body, forensic pathologist Henning Kirchhoff makes a strange discovery: on the inside of the upper left arm, they find the remains of a tattoo like those that were common in the Waffen-SS. Two more murders are committed following the same pattern. Why would someone kill three old people? And what does the mysterious number mean?

The forensic pathologist and Pia Kirchhoff's ex-husband discovers that the dead man's pacemaker stopped working.

A new explosive case emerges for Pia Kirchhoff and Oliver von Bodenstein. This thriller is based on a bestselling book of the same name by Nele Neuhaus. Early one morning, drunken youths make a gruesome discovery on the banks of the River Main: the body of a 16-year-old girl has been washed up. Apparently, the body had been floating in the river for some time, but no one had reported the dead woman missing. The autopsy reveals that the girl was brutally abused and raped for years.
