Eberhard and Doris Schmidt run a successful haulage company. Eberhard Schmidt, a freight forwarder, learns of his cancer diagnosis and wants to use his remaining time to fulfill a lifelong dream.

In return, they have granted him the right to live there for the rest of his life, but his relationship with the young married couple is marked by deep mistrust. After a fall, he is admitted to the Sachsenklinik with a fractured fibula.
