Rita Hayworth

Rita Hayworth was an American actress and dancer. She achieved fame during the 1940s as one of the era's top stars, appearing in a total of 61 films over 37 years. She is perhaps best known for her performance in the 1946 film noir, Gilda. She is listed as one of the top 25 female motion picture stars of all time in the American Film Institute's survey, AFI's 100 Years...100 Stars.\nHayworth was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 1980. The following year she moved to Manhattan, New York, where her daughter, Princess Yasmin Aga Khan, could care for her. Hayworth died at her home from complications associated with Alzheimer's on May 14, 1987, at age 68.\nInfluenced by the death of her mother, Yasmin Aga Khan became known for raising public awareness of Alzheimer's disease and founded the Rita Hayworth Gala, an annual benefit for the Alzheimer's Association.
