- 2015 - Ariane sets out to research the events that took place in 1969. Returning to Bellerive is an emotional experience, and she is touched by Julie who in turn enjoys the company of this older, gentle woman whom she discovers was the person who painted the lovely fresco of Elise… Strange events occur as they visit the house, but engrossed in their conversation neither woman takes notice. Anyway, Julie’s mind is elsewhere; she is convinced that Yanis has got involved once again with Catherine and is finding it hard to deal with growing feelings of jealousy, sparked by a text message from an unknown number that lands on Yanis’ phone. - 1986 - Françoise buys a kitten for Valentine in an effort to get her mind off her imaginary friend Elise. But soon after, the cat accidentally drowns. Valentine declares that it was Elise’s doing… Françoise and Philippe, with growing concern, decide to have her see a therapist. The session ends with an alarming conclusion: Valentine’s hallucinations could be due to a brain tumor and she needs to undergo medical tests. Philippe and Françoise are in shock. In the meantime, Remi takes his friend Yanis to meet Catherine. Remi is totally taken by the young girl who is just as attractive as she is different. Catherine is in fact aphasic. She and Yanis quickly fall in love with each other. - 1969 - Ariane sets out to find the hunter who went after the girls. She and Jean-Pierre go to the police station where Detective Godot is hardly cooperative; his theory is that Elise’s death is a simple, though tragic accident. Ariane, on the other hand, won’t give up on the idea of a hunter and her tracks lead her to Jules Lasserre, a man who lives very near the marshes and who is known for poaching. Her intuition proves to be right, if dangerous. As she creeps into Lasserre’s house, she finds the moon-shaped medallion that belonged to her daughter, but Lasserre walks in on her by surprise and locks her up in the house…

- 2015 - Yanis is as mesmerized by Catherine as he was back in ‘86 and Remi, who had remained her friend and lover over the years, is quick to catch on to what is going on between them. The night of Julie and Yanis’ housewarming party at Bellerive, Remi is crushed by the affair between Catherine and his best friend; he has a few too many glasses of wine and slips to Julie that Yanis is sleeping with Catherine. And what better time but that night, with Yanis sleeping on the couch downstairs as he will do for the nights to come, for little Elise decide to come into the world... Julie delivers her baby alone at the hospital, with only Ariane who thank goodness happened to be in Bellerive when Julie had her first contractions. - 1986 - To her parents’ relief, Valentine’s MRI results show no tumor. But the whole affair was a terrible blow on the little girl who experiences a short-lived angry spell with Elise. Soon after, hoping to make things better between them again, Valentine proposes that they read Elise’s diary together. But Valentine forgets to lock the diary up in its usual hiding place and Philippe finds it. In fact, this reassures Francoise who finally understands where this imaginary friend came from! Then again, says the therapist, it doesn’t explain why her daughter should feel the need to make up such a friend, and she informs the parents that she is sending a social worker to the house to check on them. Philippe is furious, and fears the intrusion all the more that he is concealing something from them all. He has in fact discovered that the little girl who wrote the diary actually existed, lived in Bellerive, and drowned in the pond in 1969. As for their son Remi, Yanis and Catherine’s loving relationship makes him suffer terribly. - 1969 - Alerted by Jean-Pierre the police show up at Lasserre’s and set Ariane free. Lasserre is suspected of having killed Elise and is arrested on the spot. But his statement leads the police up a very different track. In fact, Lasserre testifies that the medallion was given to him by Sylvaine, and the doctor’s secretary is soon to fall to pieces when questioned by the police: yes, she stole jewelry that she then gave Lasserre for him to sell. She was in need of money to pay for the operation that would fix her daughter’s vocal chords and allow her to speak. But she had nothing to do with Elise’s death! Sylvaine is finally released, as is Lasserre, with no proof held against them. Ariane, who thought she was about to discover the truth takes this very hard, and her marriage with Jean-Paul is all but falling to pieces.

- 2015 - Julie, who is still angry at Yanis, asks Ariane to move in to Bellerive to help her with the baby. As she witnesses stranger and stranger occurrences Ariane grows certain that her little Elise is indeed present… and is apparently trying to tell her something. But what? What is the meaning of the word « MARS » written on the mirror? Ariane manages to get hold of the police files on her daughter’s death. An expert’s examination of the letter in which Lasserre confesses to the murder, left by him upon committing suicide after his arrest in 1969, reveals that the document is a fake, just as Jean-Pierre had claimed before dying. Ariane is now sure of one thing: someone killed the hunter, and that same someone is responsible for her daughter’s death. In the meantime, Yanis is experiencing his share of revelations. Catherine confesses to him having given birth to his child after he left in ’86. The boy, whom she named Louis, lived only a few hours. - 1986 - Philippe who is in a state of utter confusion decides to have the local priest come “exorcise” Valentine’s room. But Françoise interferes with what she calls “that monkey business” just in time before the social worker shows up only minutes later. Upset by her parent’s argument, Valentine runs away from home and Philippe who goes looking for her finally finds her down by the pond where Elise drowned. As father and daughter open their hearts to each other Philippe is ready to believe her story about Elise and says she can trust him. They forget all about the social worker’s visit who stares suspiciously at Philippe when they finally return to Bellerive. As for Yanis, he is living a passionate affair with Catherine. She tells him she was never able to speak again in spite of the operation she underwent as a child and that she has but one project in life, to become a writer. Remi is terribly hurt by their relationship and drowns his misery in alcohol. But his parents, totally engrossed by the Valentine issue, hardly notice that their son is going downhill. - 1969 - Jean-Pierre gets a call to certify a man’s death. It’s Lasserre, who hung himself, leaving a letter in which he confesses to Elise’s murder. He killed her as revenge for Jean-Pierre failing to save his mother from cancer. At first Ariane is sure she has finally found the truth, but she soon comes upon a strange detail: the exact same patient calls on Raymond every Wednesday afternoon and manages to see him when no one else is in Bellerive. Elise drowned on a Wednesday afternoon, and the patient in question has been dead for three years. What is it that Raymond has been concealing?

- 2015 - Catherine tells Ariane that MARS (the god of war) was the nickname she and Elise had given Alain Godot, the policeman, the same policeman who was in charge of investigating Elise’s death at the time and who is today the town mayor. Comparing the signature of the letter supposedly written by Lasserre to Godot’s own signature, she grasps that it was he who killed Lasserre. And the only person who would have had reason to kill Lasserre would be Elise’s murderer. Ariane confronts Godot and threatens to reveal the whole story to his family and the press. The pieces of the puzzle finally fall into place. Raymond’s mysterious lover (see below) was no other than inspector Godot. And it was because Elise walked in on them that afternoon that she ran away into the marshes where she slipped and drowned. Godot who feared for his career and his reputation had done nothing to save her. Ariane tells him he has a day to break the entire story to his wife. Catherine is literally losing her mind living without Yanis. She kidnaps little Elise and attempts to drown with her in the pond, right where the other Elise died in 1969... Yanis and Julie save Catherine and the baby just seconds before it’s too late. Within a few hours, Godot’s car wreckage is found. Could the vision of Elise’s ghost and her desperate calls for help before drowning have led him to crash into a tree? Ariane now knows the real truth and can let go of her daughter and Bellerive. Yanis and Julie have made up their mind to stay there and go on living together. As for Remi, he has gone to see Catherine at the hospital. He will always be there for her… - 1986 - Philippe must face accusations of assault on his daughter but manages to prove his innocence and is finally released. Remi, who is brokenhearted and shameful at having betrayed his friends Yanis and Catherine, attempts to commit suicide. Luckily, Elise’s ghost warns Françoise who manages to save her son. For the Marsy family, it is clear that the only way out of this is to move from Bellerive, as young Elise seems to truly haunt the house and will do so for some time! - 1969 - Raymond, grown sick with guilt, finally admits the truth to Ariane. He is in love with a man whose name he will not reveal and he sees him every Wednesday. The day Elise died, she had walked in on them making love in Raymond’s office. Elise had panicked and run away towards the pond. He and his lover had searched for her in vain. But Raymond’s story is interrupted when Suzanne walks in, announcing to her son who had joined them that Ariane spent the night with another man and that it’s about time she pack her things. Ariane has nothing to add and is about to give in to her mother-in-law. But Jean-Pierre won’t let her go. He loves her, he wants to live with her, far from Bellerive. The young couple decides to leave and build a better life somewhere new.
