FOCUS

Set in mid-America immediately after the Second World War, Lawrence Newman, an office worker, lives with his mother and keeps himself to himself. When, because of failing eyesight, he starts to wear spectacles, his neighbours decide he looks Jewish and when he marries they decide his wife looks Jewish too. Led by Lawrence's neighbour Fred, the community wages an anti-Semitic campaign against the pair, trying to force them out.
