Claire arrives for her first day of work at Jays’ company and is worried that Jay doesn't have a real job for her. Cam, having lost his music teacher job due to budget cuts, is now substitute teaching at the high school. With the opportunity to become a full-time history teacher, Cam throws himself into the teaching with less-than-stellar results. But, Cam can coach football, so he’s hired. Mitch has to bring Lily to work with him after she injures herself. He calls on Haley to come to the office to help watch her, but Haley spends her day with Charlie, Mitchell’s boss. Luke and Manny have their first day of high school. They each brush off Phil and Gloria, respectively during their drop-off.
Adam wrestles with the fact that he is a cool kid and no longer a nerd while his original friend group isn't as lucky; Beverly attempts to have a more grown-up relationship with Erica and Barry before they head back to college.

When the team uncovers the scientist’s newest – and highly lucrative – food invention, they begin to track the trail of jealous competitors in the multi-million dollar food industry. Meanwhile, Angela plans a post-wedding bachelorette party for Brennan and it gets crazier than intended.
Adam and Brea decide to go to prom together, but when Adam worries he won't be Prom King, Beverly's actions jeopardise the event. Barry teaches Erica how to be compassionate and caring when Geoff's dad is in the hospital.
