When unit 701 faces a crisis, Zheng Dang goes on a search to find the smartest people in the country to help. At his old university, he meets the autistic Rong Jin Zhen, and is immediately amazed by the mathematical genius.

Zheng Dang has to use drastic measures to recruit Ji Zhen when he is ordered back to base in the next 24 hours. On their way back, they stop in the mountains to recruit Han Bing, a professional fighter and shooter, and are ambushed by enemy spies.

The new students for Unit 701 come together. Instructor An faces problems with Jin Zhen on the first day when he refuses to leave his room without his bag. Han Bing remembers his mother's death and the reason he blamed his father.

The training continues and Jin Zhen continues having trouble adapting to the new environment, surprising everyone with his bad results. When Jin Zhen is caught sleeping during training, Division Chief Lei asks for his expulsion from the program.

Qi Rong develops a plan to get Jin Zhen ahead in the mountain march, but ends up getting him, Jin Zhen and Xiao Yun in trouble. Instructor An tries to get Zhai Li to help Jin Zhen, but she gets discovered by Division Chief Lei.

The final exam is starting and the recruits are separated into teams. Right after the start of their mission, all the recruits are suddenly captured by a masked group of men.
