The training course for the special preparatory class reaches a turning point. Naomi joins the class as the fifth student in Sakuragi's class. Yusuke, Hideki, Yoshino, and Maki are woken up at 5:00 a.m. to study, but they start to drag their feet. Sakuragi leaves the class with Ino, and goes to see a legendary math teacher. In what appears to be a dilapidated Edo-period schoolhouse, Sakuragi begs Tetsunosuke Yanagi, the University of Tokyo mathematics demon, to teach math in his class. Yanagi accepts but makes the student with the lowest test score wear a headband with moron written on it. When Yoshino fails a test and receives the headband, she runs off in tears. Ino and Yusuke find her with her gang friends, and Ino is embroiled in a game of chicken in exchange for Yoshino.

Yoshino leaves the class suspicious of the relationship between Yusuke and Naomi but returns. A special science teacher Shutaro Ain, and a special Japanese teacher Ryuzaburo Akutayama join the class before the summer break. All Ryuzan High School teachers take a teacher reemployment test where Ino barely passes, but all others fail. Hideki is accused of accused of an incident resulting in injury, and the police take him into custody. Sakuragi is concerned that this incident could derail his ambitions and rushes to the police station, where the detectives presume Hideki has beat Ichiro. Maki witnessed the incident and states Ichiro's twin brother Jiro has beat Ichiro. However, to protect his brother, Ichiro refuses to tell the truth to prove Hideki's innocence.

Ryuzan High School does not have the budget to hire teachers due to the chairman's wasteful spending. Sakuragi places Ino in charge of teaching world history, and a television show picks up on the story of the special class. Maki's pride gets the best of her when her friend Asumi appears as a celebrity reporter. Sakuragi objects to giving interviews that may distract students from the upcoming University of Tokyo mock exam, but Yuriko is excited by the prospect of appearing on television and ignores him. The students acquiesce to the in-depth media coverage and then resume their focus on preparing for the mock exam. On the day of the exam, the students arrive at the venue and try to appear calm, but they are filled with anxiety inside.

Yusuke, Naomi, and other students in the special class take their first mock exam at the University of Tokyo. Yusuke closes his eyes and reminisces what Sakuragi said, but Ichiro and Hideki are restless. Maki is distracted by the sniffling of a student next to her. Seeing this, Yusuke loudly mutters that an exam is a dialogue with the self, reminding others of Sakuragi's words. After the exam, they go back to school and find Sakuragi and other teachers waiting for them in the classroom. They cross-check the students' answers for each subject to estimate their exam scores. The results show the students have less than a five-percent chance of passing the entrance exam. The students are discouraged and leave the classroom, leaving only Yuuske and Yoshino behind.

Kenji Sakuragi is a former motorcycle gang leader turned lawyer who made a name for himself when he helped struggling students at Ryuzan High School pass the entrance exam to the University of Tokyo. He went on to establish a law firm specializing in school reconstruction. It is now the Reiwa era. With a scholastic deviation score of thirty-two, Ryukai Academy is on the verge of bankruptcy, and Vice Principal Hiroyuki Takahara suggests implementing a restructuring plan devised by Sakuragi. Will Sakuragi and his former student Naomi Mizuno generate successful applicants for the University of Tokyo and rejuvenate the academy? The students of Ryukai Academy each have personal challenges that they must overcome, and their encounter with Sakuragi and Mizuno will alter the course of their lives.

Ryukai Academy establishes a special course to help students gain admission to the University of Tokyo. Academy Chairman Kumiko Tatsuno disapproves of such course and Sakuragi's teaching methods and warns Vice Principal Takahara to keep an eye on Sakuragi before he causes any more trouble. Kaede Iwasaki, a member of the badminton team, is at bay before a major tournament that would affect her college scholarship. She is concerned that Sakuragi saw her shoplifting at a convenience store and is further pressured when Sakuragi says that the tournament is not feasible for her. Kouichiro Amano, who feels inferior to his brother, and Nao Hayase, who wants to change her capricious nature, enroll in the special course. Mizuno is delighted they joined and gives them an assessment test.
