Hamish outwits his superiors when he makes the connection between two apparently unrelated mysteries: the theft of a large amount of table salt and the disappearance of a local bully.

Newcomers to the village, Vicky and Paul, cause a bit of a stir amongst the locals, but is gets out of hand when Vicky begins to receive anonymous threats. Hamish investigates.

An apparent break-in at the home of the local laird attracts the attention of Hamish's heavy-handed superiors in Inverness. As the police swarm to Lochdubh, Hamish is preoccupied by the strange behaviour of his friend TV John.

Hamish Macbeth's evangelical bank manager is enraged when he discovers that his daughter is playing the lead in Lochdubh's amateur production of `West Side Story'. Worse still, she has fallen in love with her leading man, the son of a bankrupt farmer.

Two escaped convicts injure Hamish's dog Wee Jock; TV John tries to stop Hamish from going after the convicts.

While out on a mountain trek, Hamish tries to warn fellow climbers from going further, but as they continue, danger strikes.
