Helle is assigned to investigate the killing of a young man, while special investigators Dreyer and Jacobi arrive from out of town and make it clear that they require no further help. Helle and Dreyer are made partners.

An unsolved double murder case from three decades ago catches Helle and Dreyer's attention. Helle has suspicions that her mum's disappearance may be connected to the investigation.

Once the police start investigating Andrea's murder, Dreyer attempts to sabotage the investigation so nothing leads back to him. Helle continues investigating alone after she is forced to step back from the case.

Dreyer discovers that Helle is making way with her private investigation, which makes him realise that he needs her help. They confirm that Jani has also been searching for Tyra's killer.

Helle and Dreyer's investigation leads them to a pre-Christian religion that was once widespread in the region, and discover that both Jani and Tyra attempted to contact people in the area who still practiced it.

Helle is named a hero for saving Jani and solving the decades-old murders, but struggles with guilt. Tyra's murder has still not been solved, so the investigation continues.
