When Asa hears that G'Win and Lil Foster are getting married, he confronts G'Win. After G'win confirms the engagement, he seeks solace at the bottom of a bottle. When drunk, they get the idea of messing with the coal company.

Ledda tries to convince her brother Houghton to finally quit using drugs and alcohol. Her husband is not enthusiastic about the constant contact with Houghton until he is offered a job.
