Facing eviction from their flat, Costello makes a promise to her daughter Iris that they will have a safe place to stay by nightfall. Selby is back in the free world after a stint in prison and keen to reconnect with Iris and Costello. Selby and Costello don't know if they can trust one another again, but as Costello and Iris's search for a place to stay grows more desperate, both Costello and Selby will stop at nothing to keep Iris safe in the crooked city.

As Costello works her job at a local peep show, a journalist offers her an exciting opportunity. Costello throws herself into this new challenge, while struggling to keep herself and Iris afloat after their near eviction. Selby relishes his newfound freedom and the chance to spend more time with Iris on an unconventional day out. Gloria seeks to repair the damage caused by her drunken antics, but an unexpected connection at the funeral parlour looks to derail her good behaviour.

When an old acquaintance from prison demands restitution, Selby is forced to ask for help from an unwilling protector. Costello goes on an underwhelming date, her hopes of feeling desirable after ten years on her own shuddering to an anti-climactic ending. Iris confides in Gloria about a problem at school, and Gloria decides to take matters into her own hands. After an unwelcome correspondence sends Costello reeling, Selby approaches her with a risky proposition.

In Bruton, Costello finally believes she is living her best life. Selby, Costello and Iris all seem to be thriving in their new home, until disappointing news disrupts their dreams of a conventional family life. As Selby and Costello's relationship begins to sour, cracks in their family unit begin to form, and their seemingly perfect world begins to deteriorate - with devastating results.

When a visit to her family awakens old demons, Costello confronts a long-kept secret from her past and finds the courage to leave Selby. Concerned by his behaviour in Bruton, Allegra arrives to help Selby clean up his act, much to Selby's frustration. Not knowing when they will see one another again, Selby and Costello say an uncertain goodbye. Gloria receives surprising news and is presented with a decision she doesn't feel ready to make.

Costello has found a safe space to land, but she must continue to hustle to make a living when she realises what it will take to stay in London. As he pines for a phone call from Costello, Selby acclimates to his new reality and reluctantly makes a new friend. Gloria asks for Costello's help as she wavers over a life-altering decision. Iris is angry at being moved to yet another new home when disaster strikes, propelling both Costello and Iris into more uncertainty.
