Rebus

Rebus' investigation of a serial killer gets personal when a policeman's body is found at his door.

Rebus is asked by his boss to head off a gangland war between two of Edinburgh's notorious gangsters, and soon discovers evidence of an illegal operation to run prostitutes out of Bosnia and into Scotland. When Rebus's daughter is the victim of a hit-and-run accident, the finger points to one of Rebus's main suspects.

The sighting of a newly-released paedophile has a profound and disturbing effect on Rebus's friend, and when he is found dead the next day Rebus is determined to find out whether it was murder or suicide.

A body is found, and Rebus is convinced the murder is an underworld revenge killing, despite the different theory of the Scottish Crime Squad. Rebus also has to contend with a spate of racist attacks from a far-right Nationalist group which has become more active, and soon finds evidence to link the two cases.

Rebus finds himself mixing with Edinburgh's elite when an eminent doctor is murdered and an intriguing clue is left at the scene of the crime. When another murder that is evidently connected to the case occurs, Rebus is reminded of a curious suicide case he investigated 20 years previously.

A Kosovan man is murdered on a notorious Edinburgh sink estate and Rebus is brought in to investigate. At first it appears to be a race crime, but Rebus is unconvinced and in his inimitable dogged manner discovers that in fact two other murders are linked to the initial crime. One of the victims is the brother of the lead thug on the estate and the other another Kosovan girl both of whom had been missing.
