Eldest daughter Fiona runs the chaotic Gallagher household while dad Frank is busy drinking away the family's Giro check. When Fiona meets a handsome stranger, she thinks he's only interested in a one-night stand.

It's Friday and Frank is nowhere to be seen, which is a bit odd as it's Giro day; he never goes missing on Giro day. The family start a manhunt and panic sets in when a body is found in the canal. Frank eventually turns up in Calais with no passport and no clue as to how he got there, but Fiona gets suspicious when she notices that her new man is smoking fancy French cigarettes.

Kev accidentally proposes to Veronica, a drunken Frank blabs the news to everyone, Kev reveals a secret to Veronica.

A small child goes missing from a birthday party. Frank turns the crowd into a lynch mob. Fiona and Steve realise that the missing child is with nine-year-old Debbie.

Frank and Karen hit the road for their driving lesson, although Karen has some extracurricular lessons on the timetable. Later, the Gallaghers must find a parent for parents' evening or face a visit from the social services.

Frank shocks the family by showing up early to collect his mail. As scary bailiffs arrive, the Gallaghers uncover his scheme to claim maintenance money from his ex-wife Monica.
