Three buddies try to balance their relationships with women against their need for freedom. Mike's family responsibilities have left him with no time for himself, while Adam and Callie move in together and discover the differences from just spending the night.

Mike and Ethan learn that Adam has been hanging onto a stuffed animal he won for Callie at a carnival. When the guys get rid of it, Callie becomes upset over the missing toy, so Adam tries to win a replica before she figures it out.

When Lisa encourages Mike to meet with a young female colleague for advice, Mike hesitates but soon discovers that she is attractive. Morning commutes become less solitary for Adam when Callie starts calling him on the way to work.

When Callie admits to Adam that she is in major debt and then goes to extreme measures, Adam worries that the differences in their approach to finances might be too much for their relationship to handle.

Callie finds a lost puppy belonging to an elderly neighbour, but when Adam takes credit for rescuing it, the neighbour shows her appreciation to Adam too generously. Meanwhile, Mike's plan to confront his neighbour takes an unexpected turn.

When Callie's car gets stolen while on Adam's watch, he attempts to make it up to her by buying her a new hybrid.
