Another chance to see the pilot episode of the West Country detective drama. A bookshop owner in Penzance is brutally murdered, and Wycliffe discovers all is not well among the members of one of the area's most respected families.

A beautiful young student is found naked in bed with a serious gunshot wound to the head. While surgeons battle to save her life, Wycliffe digs deeper into the past of renowned novelist, David Cleeve, who claims his life is also at risk. Meanwhile, a man is shot dead while walking his dog on the beach and Wycliffe races against time to solve the mystery and prevent another murder before it's too late.

On the secluded estate of Lord and Lady Bottrell, amateur flautist, Tony Miller, is found shot dead by his own gun - an apparent suicide. Wycliffe senses there is more to this death than meets the eye. As he unravels the last days of Miller's life another mystery is revealed - the disappearance of a pretty maid at the Bottrell home.

Elderly Lily Armitage ventures into the ramshackle farm to visit her bedridden friend, Agnes. She does indeed find her - dead and locked in the freezer. Meanwhile, a mentally-challenged man disappears and pregnant teenager, Hilda Clemo, vanishes from her Cornish village. As fears for her safety grow, Wycliffe is brought in to search the fields and cliffs and question the family.

The body of a church cleaner is discovered partially clothed and spread-eagled below the Cross. At first, a satanic cult is thought to be behind the killing, but Wycliffe has other suspicions. An air of hatred hangs in the village, and not all of it was directed at the murdered woman.
