Coming off a stinging loss in her last concert competition in junior high, Kumiko begins high school and joins a band club only to run into the former friend and bandmate she shared defeat with.

Kumiko and the other new club members select their instruments as their senior, Asuka, pesters them.

The bandmates slack off instead of practising for their ensemble.

The bandmates deal with their instructor's unusually strict practise methods as they prep for the Sunrise Festival; Kumiko and Shuichi run into Reina after school.

The band dons uniforms and practises marching; the Sunrise Festival arrives.
