Unubore, once the ace of the Violent Crime Investigation Team at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, fell into a slump when his fiancé left him. He now works at the Setagaya Police Department constantly dreaming of meeting his destined partner. One day, Katsuya Miyamoto, an employee of a game software developer company, has been murdered. It is suspected that Eriko Kisaki, Miyamoto’s subordinate and ex-girlfriend, could be involved. However, Unubore had already fallen in love at first sight with her. Unsure of what to do, he stops by a bar and receives help from a group of interesting people.

After having his heart broken, Unubore swears to never fall in love again. However, he visits a massage parlor and immediately becomes attracted to Setsuko Konuma, one of the shop’s employees. Meanwhile, the Setagaya Police Department receives a victim report on marriage fraud from a man named Mogi. After gathering victim testimonies, they suspect that Setsuko could be involved.

Takuo Aoki, a member of the Autonomous Party, had committed suicide at his own home before formal investigations could be conducted into his potential illegal acts. Tamae, Takuo’s wife and ex-anchorperson, then announces her candidacy in his district. Unubore, who happens to cross paths with Tamae, immediately falls in love with her. But as the two continue to interact, he stumbles across Tamae’s secret.

An unidentified body has been discovered on a riverbed. The victim is identified as Yuko Hashiba, who had been living with her mother Sachie until recently. Unubore looks at Yuko's photo and becomes infatuated with her lips. Meanwhile, Anai is in love with Yuri Akishima, a gas station employee. However, he finds out that Yuri is constantly involved with shady people. One of them is Tomokazu Hamana, who happens to know Yuko.

Two men had been hospitalized under suspicions of mild food poisoning, but their condition takes a turn for the worse all of a sudden, and pass away. It is discovered that they were the husbands of Kiyomi Murakami and Kotomi Ohashi, who happen to be students in Matsuoka’s baking class. Unubore attends their funeral but is entranced by an usherette Nobuko Maehara’s beauty. The police suspect that Matsuoka might have conspired with Kiyomi and Kotomi to kill their husbands, but Unubore seems to think otherwise.

The Setagaya Police Department receives a victim report from Emi Tajiri, an entertainer and retired badminton player, claiming that she had been assaulted. She insists that Yumi Hagio, her former doubles partner in the national team, is behind this incident. Meanwhile, Tajiri and Unubore receive a death threat targeted at Tajiri’s son, Shinya.
