Franky is determined not to be a loner when she starts at Roundview.

Franky tears her house apart and finds the address of her old social worker. She hitches a ride to Birmingham with Dylan, a lorry driver whose optimism irritates her. Meanwhile, Mini lies in hospital, her condition uncertain. Nick and Matty put their differences aside and set out to find Franky, aware of how much trouble she is in. Franky persuades the social worker to reveal her Mum's address and sets out to find her.

Nick is desperately in love with Franky, but its a one-way street. He has no choice but to accept Franky as his friend and nothing more, but his love for her grows with each passing day.

Franky is in a bad place its the week of her mock exams and shes unable to concentrate of her studies. Her friends are avoiding her, while Jeff and Geoffs attempts at parental support only succeed in making her feel smothered.
