When 5 year old Oliver disappears on a holiday in France, his father's (James Nesbitt) exhaustive search fractures his marriage to Emily (Frances O'Connor) and threatens to destroy his life.

The investigation into Oliver's disappearance continues. Tony can't let go of his suspicions about the released paedophile suspect and is frustrated by the police's decision to release him.

The case is thrown into disarray when a key witness is found murdered. Tony is horrified as he begins to realise that his generous benefactor, Ian Garrett, isn't the person he claimed to be.

Tony and Emily's pleas to investigate the paedophile suspect again fall on deaf ears. Tony decides to take matters into his own hands and has a violent confrontation with life-changing consequences.

With her world collapsing around her and no real breakthrough in finding Oliver, Emily finally breaks down.
