Steve Helling

Steve Helling was an American writer and actor, best known for his in depth coverage of world events both major and minor for PEOPLE magazine, and for hosting the true crime series "Murder Made Me Famous" (Reelz, 2015-) and "Scandal Made Me Famous" (Reelz, 2016-). Born in Syracuse, NY, Helling first began writing for PEOPLE in 2000. He soon became known for his engaging style, world traveller rapport, and ability to make even the biggest of world events seem relatable to everyday readers. Helling covered such major events as 9/11 and its aftermath, the wedding of Prince Willam and Kate Middleton, the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, the 2010 earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Hurricane Katrina, and the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando. Helling was soon able to parlay his writing career into a presence on television, acting as a commentator on "Good Morning America" (ABC, 1975-), "Nightline" (ABC, 1980-), "Dateline NBC" (NBC, 1992-), "Anderson Cooper 360" (CNN, 2003-), and "Nancy Grace" (HLN, 2005-2016). In 2010, Helling released his first book, "Tiger: The Real Story," an exposé on disgraced pro-golfer Tiger Woods. The book was a smash hit, and quickly became a New York Times best-seller. Helling went from commentator to host in 2015, when he became the face and voice of the true crime series "Murder Made Me Famous." The show proved to be so popular that it was given a spinoff, "Scandal Made Me Famous," the following year, once again with Helling at the helm.
