The Countess

S1, E5: Susan Strasberg guest stars as Deborah, a wealthy Texan's wife, who hires Jim Rockford (James Garner) to deal with a blackmail problem. While Deborah and rough-hewn Ryder (Art Lund) enjoy the affluent life and people still refer to Deborah as Countess, a hangover from her previous marriage, she suddenly is confronted by hoodlum Carl (Dick Gautier), who remembers her jumping bail on a minor charge some years back. Rockford suggests she tell all to husband and police but she fears it will ruin her lifestyle. Part of the problem is solved when Carl is fatally shot, but Rockford suddenly becomes the prime suspect.
