Conquest

The turbulent relationship between Napoleon Bonaparte (Charles Boyer) and the then married Countess Marie Walewska of Poland (Greta Garbo) is chronicled in this splendidly mounted period film by director Clarence Brown. The narrative arc follows Bonaparte from his first meeting with Walewska in 1807 to his final defeat at Waterloo, as well as the details of their rocky romance.
