Watchdog

Watchdog is a family movie intended for all generations, following-up a tradicionally successfull genre of Czech comedy. It aims not only to bring the viewer good entertainment, but it should also open up an emotional aspect of interpersonal relationships in him. It should show as well how a child can feel lonely in a society, although he/she can be ostensibly taken very good care of from his relatives. The main line of the movie is a story of Kacenka and her dog Hugo. Hugo is a dachshund who was provided to Kacenka by her grandfather Mojmír. He is the only one who is convinced that his grandchild doesn´t need any „mood drugs“, but only a good friend. In other words, Mojmír „finds out“ the benefits of a dog therapy. What the eight years old Kacenka suffers from, is the ADHD syndrom (i.e. a concentration defect and hyperactivity which manifest itself in inattention, discursiveness, forgettery, permanent locomotion, so that a child might seems to others as naughty and ill-behaved). Hugo is her guardian, he is the source of a excitement as well as relaxation and last but not least a fomenter of a comical situations. In the Watchdog movie Kacenka and Hugo are naturally in touch, speaking together, due to Kacenka´s ADHD. Kacenka is so „sensitive“ that she can hear Hugo´s dog thoughts. Nevertheless the dog is not opening his mouth, but Kačenka is hearing what he is saying. Nobody else can hear Hugo, only Kacenka, who is talking to him openly, ingenously, loudly. Obviously others react on this fact differently. Julie takes it as a child game, Herian denies it, mocks Kacenka and is forbiding it to her. At the begining of the story Kacenka is in captivity of her disease, she has classical symptoms of ADHD. These symptoms are partly redeemed also thanks to Hugo and his coexistence with the family (for example Hugo can take care of her in the city traffic, with him Kacenka is more popular among sometimes cruel children). But her personality is strangled a little by Herian who is to become the „head“ of the family in the near future. With the help of Hugo, Kacenka and Mojmír are able to show Herian´s negative character in bright light. Because of this there will be no wedding, but that doesn´t mean that Julie and Kacenka will remain alone. The finale of whole film comedy ends up in discovery that Kacenka´s desease makes her a real personality, although still different from others, but extraordinery. Kacenka will not get cured, but will get perfectly used to her handicap, will not submit to it, but use its advantages.
