Worlds Apart
Worlds Apart is Denmark’s 2009 Oscar® submission; made by the director of The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo. Worlds Apart tells the story of Sara and her family, who are proud members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. In the local community they go from door to door and preach about Judgment Day and eternal salvation for Jehovah’s chosen ones. But when Sara falls in love with Teis, she is confronted with her most difficult choice in life. Teis is not a Witness, yet their love grows through stolen, secret meetings. Sara is torn between her conscience, faith and passion and, facing ostracism from her faith and family, Sara must make the toughest choice of her young life. Sara’s journey through the film becomes a personification of how a person is influenced by religious fundamentalism and by the great personal costs and difficult choices it brings with it. A simple yet true story about the art of liberating yourself from a religion. From IFC Films.
