Incident of the White Eyes
Renegade Apaches pin down a group of stage passengers in an abandoned way station where Gil Favor has led them in search of safety. As trail boss Gil Favor and Hey Soos stop a runaway stagecoach, the driver falls dead from his seat. A dark enigmatic man known as Domingo informs them that the stage was attacked by a band of Jicarillos, a tribe of fierce ghostly Apaches, known only to whites through legend. Gil sends Hey Soos back to the herd and agrees to guide the stage passengers to the Caribou way station, 12 miles to the north. However, the way station is deserted and within minutes, they find themselves surrounded by Jicarillos. Domingo admits that he once lived with these Indians, who called him "white eyes," and that he is the man they want - alive. Now the group must decide whether to forcefully send Domingo to his fate - or hold off the Jicarillos for three or four days until Gill's drovers arrive.
