The BAU travels to San Diego to stop a rapist and murderer who commits his crimes in the middle of the day. The suspect appears to blend into the neighborhood so well the local authorities have been unable to capture him.

Civilian test pilot Steve Wagner is a national hero, but not everyone admires him. His old flame, Joanne Raphelson, is about to publish a tell-all book that details the abuse she endured during their relationship. Wagner can’t let Joanne’s story get out, so he pays her a visit. He makes her one of his signature drinks, a "Spacewalk," and adds a little something extra: a powerful dose of barbiturates. When her housekeeper arrives the following week, she finds Joanne hanging from the ceiling with a noose around her neck. Captain Stottlemeyer, Lieutenant Disher, Monk and Natalie go to Joanne’s house to investigate. It appears to be suicide, but the captain and Monk spot some clues that point to murder.

The spirit of a deceased bride is haunting her husband's fiance because she cannot bear the thought of him loving anyone else. The haunting causes the bride-to-be to assume that her fiance is still in love with his late wife, who was killed in a car crash on the way to their wedding reception. In an effort to make amends between the bride and her fiance, Melinda tries to straighten out any doubts that the young bride has while giving closure to the spirit bride so she can cross over.

Avi drives Sully from Boston to Los Angeles to meet with Ray. Conor wants to go to an awards show with Tommy Wheeler, but Ray has to get Tommy out of a situation that threatens his career first. Lena digs up Frank's secrets to get him to cooperate. Mickey works with the FBI to get incriminating evidence against Sean Walker.

Charlie works to find an extremely rare comic that was stolen during a deadly robbery at a comic book convention.
