Alexandra Hedison

Actress and photographer Alexandra Hedison was perhaps best known to the public for her work as documentary filmmaker Dylan on the third season of Showtime series "The L Word" (2004-09). Although Hedison did make a splash on the show, which chronicled the lives of a group of young lesbian women living in Los Angeles, her other career as a photographer was far more prolific. Hedison was educated at both SUNY Purchase in upstate New York and UCLA. As a photographer, the earliest exhibitions of her work were held in her hometown of L.A., at the Rose Gallery in Bergamot Station. These works were a series of abstract landscapes. The themes in Hedison's work focused on both internal and external landscapes, and such abstract notions as memory, the architecture of the subconscious, and the nature of loss. Hedison's work was widely collected in both private and public collections in Europe and the United States. In addition to her work as an artist and actress, Hedison achieved some notoriety for her high profile romantic relationships. Hedison was romantically involved with actress and TV personality Ellen DeGeneres from 2001 to 2004. In 2014 Hedison married actress Jodie Foster after the couple had been dating for a year.
