Bernhard Bettermann

Bernhard Bettermann is a German/Swiss actor who is best-known in German-speaking Europe for his long-running role as Dr. Martin Stein in the popular medical drama "In aller Freundschaft." He lives in Zürich with his wife, the actress Sabina Schneebeli, and their two sons. Bettermann received his acting training at the Zürich Drama Academy, and made his debut on stage at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. His cinematic bow came in the cheesy thriller "All Out" (1991), a German production which starred Dexter Fletcher, who was then playing the lead in the English TV kids show "Press Gang." Bettermann soon became a persistent presence on German television, appearing in over 50 TV movies and shows. Bizarrely, Bettermann has appeared multiple times on two separate TV series, the crime saga "Siska" and the cop show "Tatort," but in a host of different roles. (He has played seven different characters in the former, and four in the latter.) He is most recognized for his involvement in "In aller Freundschaft," but he also has a notable part in the 40-something soap-opera "Ein Fall für Nadja." On the big screen, Bettermann was the star of Hardy Martins' prisoner-of-war drama, "As Far As My Feet Will Carry Me" (2001), and appeared in Hans Weingartner's counter-cultural youth rumpus, "The Edukators" (2004).
