When Jr. wins a national competition for his cartoon entitled "My Wife and Kid" -- based on himself, Vanessa, the baby and the rest of the Kyle family -- it catches the attention of ABC. Michael becomes Jr.'s agent, but the meeting with the television executives goes badly, crushing Jr.'s dream opportunity, so now Michael has to find a way to rectify the situation. Meanwhile, Claire threatens to break up with Tony unless he can bring some "umph" into their relationship.
Monk receives some bad news: he’s been called for jury duty. Monk loathes the idea of being stuck in a room with 11 other people, but he has no choice when he’s selected as a juror in a minor robbery trial. When time comes for the jury to deliberate, everyone votes "guilty" except for Monk. It’s 11 vs. 1, but Monk is sure that the defendant is innocent. While Monk tries to win over his fellow jurors by picking apart the evidence, he looks out the window of the jury room and begins to suspect that there is a dead body in a garbage dumpster near the courthouse. Monk gets Stottlemeyer and Disher to check it out, and sure enough, there’s a dead woman’s body in the dumpster!
When five crew members of an airborne Thunderchief are shot down by North Korean jets near the hostile country, President Bartlet dispatches a Navy SEAL team to retrieve them--prompting Leo to recall his own harrowing experience when he was downed as a pilot over North Vietnam. Leo's good friend and fellow flyer saved Leo's life and now is in trouble for allegedly paying bribes to defense contractors to obtain military contracts. Meanwhile, C.J. accepts the challenge of dueling on live television with an opinionated, conservative talk show host, Taylor Reid (recurring guest star Jay Mohr). Josh fumes when he briefs the President about a contested tax cut for stay-at-home mothers and is undercut by brash, young intern Ryan (recurring guest star Jesse Bradford). And the commander in chief balks at posing for his official portrait.
