Jim Longworth left the big city of Chicago after a run-in with his superiors there and now works for the Florida State Police. He was recently assigned to the smaller town of Sugarloaf to work with that city's police department. If you met Longworth, you would be struck by his humor and charm. It is this natural charisma and unassuming nature that makes witnesses calm enough to remember all the details and murder suspects comfortable enough to confess to him. In the pilot, the body of a woman is found in the river that runs through the Sugarloaf State Preserve. Based on his investigation, Longworth figures out that the unlikely killer is actually his partner on the police force. In series, by virtue of his position in the State Police, Longworth will encounter a wide array of cases and will always use his wit and charm as a tool to solve them - all the while searching for a new partner and nurturing a new relationship with Callie, a local nurse and her 10 year-old son.

Jim Longworth takes Callie's son Jeff to a heavily-wooded area to collect bugs for a school science project. In the effort, they stumble upon an abandoned airplane with a dead body inside. The victim turns out to be a retired Special Ops guy who taught flight school on the side to make extra money--and seemingly had a great reputation. The trail leads Longworth to a sexy graduate student studying exotic birds, a rich and powerful drug dealer, and a pair of brothers who like joy-riding in airplanes, giving the Chicago P.D. transplant one complicated murder case.

Longworth investigates a string of murders while Carlos and Daniel take extreme measures to save lives as a hurricane bears down on Florida.

Jim is introduced to the intensely competitive world of high school football as the small town Pahokee prepares for the annual "Muck Bowl," an event that draws national attention because of the NFL players who have come from it. When the dead body of a business man emerges from the muck in a sugar cane field days before the big game, Longworth must figure out who would want the man dead. Pohokee's star player appears to be the most viable suspect. Colleen Manus warns Longworth not to cause a disturbance in Pahokee knowing this game means everything to the community. But Longworth is not going to let anything, not a little muck and certainly not a football game, stand in the way of getting the killer--or killers.
