Edward Sedgwick

Circus and vaudeville performer who entered films as a comic actor in 1915 and graduated to the director's chair in 1921. Sedgwick turned out scores of westerns starring Tom Mix and Hoot Gibson, among others, before switching primarily to comedy. His career crested with MGM in the late 1920s and early 30s, buoyed by a number of collaborations with Buster Keaton; his subsequent output was mostly unexceptional.
