Gaëlle Macé

With only a handful of screenplays to her name, Gaëlle Macé has said a lot with few words. Her first project, "Empty Days," was a collaboration with César Award-nominated director Marion Vernoux. A romantic drama free from frivolity, the film takes a searing look at love's destructive potential, and won two awards at the 1999 Venice Film Festival. In 2004, Macé co-authored "A Common Thread," an intense portrait of grief that depicts the unlikely friendship that blossoms between a pregnant teen and a mourning mother. Macé garnered two awards for the film, including the SACD Screenwriting Award at Cannes, and Best French Script from the Deauville Film Festival. Her follow-up, "Imposture," was an off-kilter examination of a university professor on the edge of madness. Delving into the nooks and crannies of the human psyche, Macé went on to explore unbridled passion in "Leaving." In the film, a married woman meets the man of her dreams, and the pair is consumed by an insatiable passion. Stretching her wings in 2009, Macé penned an episode of the small screen thriller "Reporters," and wrote the made-for-TV drama "Un Viol." The following year, she teamed with fledgling director Sarah Bouyain for her first feature, the racially charged character study "The Place in Between."
