Detectives Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Stabler (Christopher Meloni) report to Wheaton Memorial Hospital to investigate a rape victim. But the victim is Stephanie Rawley, a beautiful 28-year-old woman who has been in a coma for the past year, the result of a car accident. She is brought to the hospital with pneumonia and the doctors discover she is six weeks pregnant. The detectives start by investigating everyone at Mountcastle Rehabilitation Center, where she's been for the past year. The list of suspects includes her fiance David Anderson (Ian Kahn), who despite a restraining order from her parents Bob (Henry Woronicz) and Janice (JoBeth Williams) was found sleeping in her bed. They also extract DNA from basically all male employees who had any contact with the coma wing. They also question Dr. Mandell (Bruce Davison), her neurosurgeon, especially after he plots with another doctor to abort the fetus.

The Jeffersonian team investigates the murder of Sean Nolan, a failed model whose body is found intertwined in a beaver dam. The team soon discovers that Nolan’s fruitless modeling career left his sperm donations as his only source of income. However, when the team learns that he falsified records, they start to suspect anyone who was jilted by his donations. Meanwhile, Brennan struggles with social niceties and tact when she is drawn into a feud with author Tess Brown and Hodgins gets in touch with his motherly instincts when he plays host to a fly larva.

As Hardman makes it clear he's back to stay, Jessica tasks Harvey with helping shore up support for her within the firm - but Harvey's penchant for winning may create more enemies than friends.

While a jury deliberates the guilt or innocence of a defendant on trial for murder, Jane tries to prove she has been wrongfully accused before time runs out. Meanwhile, Summer may have gone too far when she helps Cho make a case against a suspect.
