A millionaire sets up a bomb in his boat to fake his death. Barnaby is contacted by the girlfriend of his boat "captain" to investigate what happened. Small clues like hand-tied flies, a cat boarded at a vet's, and an apple slicer bring Barnaby to a confrontation with a killer.

Dr. Death gets off on the wrong foot with the new equipment manager, who appears to know something that he's not revealing. Subsequently, Zagreb falls for a woman he believes to be a prostitute. Both find themselves in over their heads as their situations progress, knowing little to nothing about their company with no luck in deciphering their respective situations.
