Peter Werner

Veteran television producer and director Peter Werner is best known for his work on the series "Moonlighting." He has worked extensively in television and has produced and directed numerous TV films throughout his career. Werner began his professional career in 1971 directing the documentary "Hidden and Seeking." In 1976 he directed the short documentary "In the Region of Ice," which won Werner an Academy Award. In 1979, he made the "Hallmark Hall of Fame" series and a few years later began work on one of the most notable series of his career, "Moonlighting," which starred Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepherd. Werner directed nine episodes from 1985 to 1986 and was nominated for an Emmy Award and a DGA Award for his work on the show. In 1987 he helmed the acclaimed series "LBJ: The Early Years," for which he was nominated for another Emmy Award. In 1989 he began to produce work as well, serving as executive producer on the series Men. In 2002 Werner directed episodes of the acclaimed series "Boomtown" and later worked as a recurring director on the Jennifer Love Hewitt series "Ghost Whisperer" and the NBC show "Medium." Peter Werner died on March 21, 2023 in Wilmington, NC at the age of 76.
