Albert finds himself unsure of his identity when Miss Wilder assigns the students a family tree project. The trouble is, just as the Ingalls are getting ready to officially adopt him, Albert's long-estranged biological father shows up and demands custody of him.

Determined to make it through the winter season, a pair of men earn money by selling tainted meat to the Walnut Grove community. Several townspeople later become infected with anthrax, including Laura, Albert, Adam, Alice, and Nels. The victims are confined to the blind school, and with time running out to help them, Charles and Jonathan go out to retrieve some medicine.

Barnaby travels to the small town of Las Mesas looking for a missing woman. He finds her, but he's taken captive along with her and several town residents by a group of men waiting to steal $250,000 from an armored car that is going to come through town.

Betty investigates an academy for girls where a series of accidents have injured instructors and students alike. What she finds is a vicious group of girls who dominate the school through fear and intimidation tactics.
