On his first day as an intern, an idealistic DR. DEVON PRAVESH (Manish Dayal) faces the harsh realities of medical care, as third year resident DR. CONRAD HAWKINS (Matt Czuchry) takes him under his wing and teaches his unconventional ways for treating patients. Meanwhile, Conrad goes head to head with Chief of Surgery DR. SOLOMON BELL (Bruce Greenwood), who uses power and intimidation to cover up his mistakes.
The search for Nathan becomes increasingly dangerous, and Dan's life hangs in the balance. Brooke is surprised when her father (recurring guest star RICHARD BURGI) returns. And Clay and Quinn reconnect with Logan (recurring guest star PIERCE GAGNON).
Benton travels to Mississippi to earn extra money working as a "locum tenens" doctor--a visiting temp--at a rural hospital in a small town. Instead of a hospital, Benton finds a rural clinic run by Maureen (Celia Weston), a nurse practitioner and Catholic nun. Benton quickly learns that some of the white folks don't trust an African-American doctor. Through his determination and expertise, Benton slowly gains the respect of most of the townspeople. Back in Chicago, Jeanie suffers a medical setback.
Miles and Tom Neville find themselves in an unsteady alliance, fighting for the same cause – but Miles still doesn't trust him. And Charlie, Jason and Nora attempt to pull off a daring river rescue of Dr. Stephen Camp (guest star TIMOTHY BUSFIELD) to keep deadly anthrax out of the hands of Monroe. Meanwhile Rachel and Aaron are captured and threatened by Militia forces.
When Mac and Riley go missing and wake up 24 hours later in a corn field with no memory of how they got there, they must unravel the mystery to find who took them, and how to get rid of the nanotrackers in their bodies, no matter the cost.
