Series Premiere. In a bizarre twist of fate, a recently paroled master thief assumes the identity of Lucas Hood, sheriff-in-waiting of Banshee, PA--the same town where his former partner and lover, who changed her name to Carrie, relocated and remarried years ago. Keeping his history a secret as he awaits forged papers, Lucas befriends boxer-turned-bartender Sugar Bates, and settles into his new life as Banshee's sheriff. Itching for the thrill of thievery and yearning for Carrie, who is now the wife of attorney Gordon Hopewell and mother of two, Lucas inadvertently gets tangled up in the rampant corruption of shunned Amish gangster Kai Proctor, while keeping a vigilant eye out for Mr. Rabbit, the New York-based mob boss who wants revenge against Lucas and Carrie for the jewel heist that landed Lucas in prison. A party thrown by Proctor for the new sheriff is spoiled by a crasher--a member of the redneck Moody clan who despise Amish people in general and Kai in particular.

A Hudson University co-ed, Caroline Pereira (guest star Tess Saltau), dependent on financial aid, is found murdered with an unexplained influx of cash. Caroline's wealthy roommate, Gloria Kulhane (guest star Trieste Dunn), is found with one of Caroline's rings, making her a suspect as the two were not friends. Detectives Benson (Mariska Hargitay), Fin (Ice-T) and Stabler (Christopher Meloni), have several theories about her murderer and their motive and investigate the various suspects; the roommate, her childhood friend (Will Estes), and someone connected to a heavily trafficked website where Caroline was selling term papers for cash. Dann Florek, Richard Belzer, Diane Neal, B.D Wong and Tamara Tunie also star.

A desperate underling of Kai Proctor, named Hanson, decides to hold a rave in an Amish barn, selling homemade E pills stolen from Proctor to Banshee youth including Deva, Carrie's rebellious daughter. Catching wind of the plan, Lucas and his team orchestrate a raid, but the effects of a tainted batch of pills send many revelers into convulsions, with one notable fatality. Though Deva is ferried to the safety of her home by Lucas, Hanson isn't as fortunate as he returns to Kai's mansion following the debacle.

Dr. Bull and his Trial Analysis Corporation (TAC) team must formulate a new defense strategy when they discover the jury has a subconscious gender bias toward their client, a female pilot accused of negligence after one of her flights crashes.

A mixed martial arts title bout is being planned at the local Kinaho Moon Casino, run by tribe leader Benjamin Longshadow and his son Alex. Huge profits are anticipated for Banshee investors, but the enterprise is threatened when the champion arrives and shows off his black-and-blue colors, angering Lucas and especially Siobahn. Will Lucas keep his mouth shut and allow the fight to go on as planned?
