While Irwan is preparing to wed his pregnant wife Hanneke in jail, his sister, Carmen, is settling into her new, anonymous life in a distant town in the Netherlands. Carmen continues to feel under threat and calls on Luther for help, but they soon become accomplices when yet another attempt is made on her life. Irwan meanwhile is preparing for his release from jail and is blackmailed by an old rival.

Carmen goes on a dangerous pursuit to find Irwan while Hanneke goes into labor. Upon meeting her new nephew, Carmen is confronted with the state of her own family and her relationship with John de Weerdt.

When a dead body surfaces, tension and distrust mounts within the family. Hanneke reveals her own suspicions of Carmen to Detective Leeflang and soon the District Attorney encourages the investigation to focus on Carmen…
