Senator aide John Hartmann, who recently just divorced, hires Georgie Anne Lahti, a new press secretary who attempts to woo him.

John and Georgie end up going on a date, albeit a group one and she ends up with George Hamilton.

John is sick in bed, but that does not strop Strobe and Billy Bob from coming over and drowning him with their sorrows of lost love.

Georgie's father is released from prison and shows up to visit her at John's house. She insists that he be allowed to stay there.

John and Georgie end up at a hotel, but find it difficult to rest with bickering newlyweds next door to them.
