The Indian Doctor

Dr. Prem Sharma and his wife, Kamini, arrive in Trefelin but struggle to adjust to life in the small Welsh mining town. Although mine manager Richard Sharpe tries to befriend the couple, Kamini is determined to leave the valley.

Prem fields an emergency call for an unexpected patient, while Kamini tries to find her husband a job in London. Sharpe plots to steal the diary of Sharma's predecessor out of the surgery.

It's payback time when Dan steals Sharpe's car. He didn't bargain for the fact that he nearly runs over Kamini. She ends up defending him once again, and gets herself into trouble. Prem goes to confront Sharpe about the diary, and realises that all is not as it seems in the household.

In an effort to diagnose the miners' health problems, Dr. Sharma arranges for an x-ray van to come to town. Turnout is poor at first, until the driver causes a real stir.

A lot is going on behind the scenes as the fete preparations continue. Prem Sharma is preparing to leave the village and Kamini, his wife, goes in search of Dan, who is missing, but finds more than she bargained for. Megan pleads with Prem to stay and help the miners fight for justice and for their health. Meanwhile, Sharpe finally gets the promotion he's been chasing. Matters come to a head as Prem takes on Sharpe once and for all in front of the whole village at the annual summer fete.

The Sharmas anxiously await the arrival of Pushpa, Kamini's judgmental mother, for an extended visit. An evangelical preacher hopes to win some converts in the village but struggles to control his wayward daughter.
