Jericho

Recently widowed Annie Quaintain sells her home and possessions to pay off her late husband’s debts. Looking for work and a place to stay, Annie and her two children set off for Culverdale Valley, where an enormous viaduct is being built.

Convinced that Red had something to do with the explosion, railway detective Bamford offers a reward for information. Desperate to help George forget recent events, Annie asks Johnny to look for new lodgings, but his replacement makes matters worse.

Charles and Isabella marry to secure funding for the viaduct. In an effort to keep prices fair, Coates takes over the market but makes himself enemies. An outbreak of fever causes panic in the Quaintain household.

Angry with his mother, George stays with Coates while Annie tries to put down roots in Jericho. Worried that news of Johnny’s true identity will hurt their business, Charles tries to woo a different type of investor.

It’s payday in Jericho, but with money for the viaduct running out, wages are delayed. The men organize a strike, and Charles must come up with a way to get them back to work. Meanwhile, George reconciles with Annie and returns home.

Johnny has moved back in with Annie, but his new involvement in the Blackwood business puts him at odds with Coates. Annie panics when she learns that the graves will be dug up to make room for the quarry.
