A.D. 2045. The emigration fleet, Macross 7, is ambushed by a mysterious enemy, interrupting Fire Bomber's outdoor rock concert. Lead vocalist Basara Nekki rushes into the fight in his beloved VF-19 Custom, Fire Valkyrie, and starts singing in the middle of the battlefield.

Milia, Mylene's mother, insists she goes on a blind date, and as Mylene seeks refuge in Basara's apartment, the air-raid sirens blare, warning of another attack. Basara once again heads for the battlefield in his VF-19 Custom, intent on striking both enemy and ally alike with his passionate singing.

Fire Bomber is invited to perform at Super Nova, a music festival that has launched many a band to stardom. As Basara heads to the venue, he comes across some musicians harassing Mylene. Afterwards, Basara regrets breaking his creed of using music instead of violence to reach people's hearts.

Fire Bomber's popularity soars while City 7 is plagued by a string of unusual incidents. People are being attacked and left in a vegetative state, and some believe it to be the work of vampires. One night after a show, Mylene finds herself the target of a pursuit.

When Fire Bomber's leader, Ray, accepts a gig on Factory Ship Three Star, a female biker gang comes to crash their show. The bikers heckle the band and chide Basara, asking whether he really puts his life on the line for singing. That is when the Varauta Army attacks.

Mylene still refuses to go on a date, so her mother, Mayor Milia Farina Jenius, offers her a deal: Go on this date, and she will support her in her band activities. Reluctantly, Mylene accepts. Meanwhile, her future date is conducting an investigation when he runs into Fire Bomber.
