The new recruits leave the security of training school for the first time. Pam is shocked by the state of a dog, Amanda is concerned about the welfare of a family of cats and Ian receives a call about a dangerous pet.

Ian investigates a call alleging a litter of kittens has been left unattended, Melissa must conquer her fear of heights to rescue a crow caught in a tree and Pam gets tough with a man accused of beating his dog.

Amanda is given the task of rehoming an obstinate pig, Pam must persuade a cat owner to let her pet receive veterinary attention and Nic handles a complaint about a dog in poor condition.
