Run the Burbs

It's the day of the Blockbuster - Rockridge's annual block party - and the Phams are busy preparing. When local bylaw officer, Barb, arrives, the Phams discover that the party is at risk of being cancelled. Barb informs them that they can't celebrate without a special event permit which is only available to one group per day. Unfortunately, the permit has already been issued to another group. A savvy Camille goes to the permit holders to plead her case and is inadvertently embroiled in a high-stakes car race where she competes for the permit, her car and, ultimately, glory. Meanwhile, Rockridge's eccentric neighbourhood aquarium-salesman, Sebastian, reveals his celebrity hook-up fell through. The surprise musical artist Andrew was banking on can no longer attend (and probably never knew about the party in the first place). Andrew is forced to convince an elusive neighbour to perform as a replacement. Around the neighbourhood, Khia and Leo are busy putting up posters for the party. When they discover that their neighbour Mannix is back in town, Khia grapples with the fact that she may, in fact, have feelings for Mannix.

It's the hottest day of the year and Camille is particularly feeling it. When Andrew reveals that new neighbours have moved into the coveted pool house property, Camille makes it her mission to befriend them and hopefully use their pool to cool off. When they are successfully invited to the pool house, Camille and Andrew must cancel on previously-made plans with Hudson and his new partner, Shadee. But when they arrive at the pool house, they realize they may have been better off sticking to their original plans. Meanwhile, at Bubble Bae, Cathy notices Khia's artistic ability and invites her to paint a mural on one of the blank walls. When Khia finishes the mural - which is making not one but many political statements - she has a hard time accepting the critiques of various passersby. Finally, with Leo at sleepaway camp, Andrew struggles with separation anxiety.

It's the day of Andrew's favourite wrestling event and he can't wait to watch with the family. Unfortunately, none of them are very interested in participating this year. Camille is focused on her father, Khia is more interested in buying concert tickets and Leo just wants to do whatever Khia's doing. When Andrew's 'perfect' doctor sister, Carol, drops by unexpectedly, this further distracts Andrew from wrestling. When he complains to Hudson about how much Carol frustrates him, Hudson helps him see how good he really has it. Meanwhile, Camille worries that Ramesh is becoming a recluse and tries to force him to join clubs so he can meet new people and be more social. She soon backtracks, though, when Ramesh signs up for online dating. Camille is now worried these strangers may take advantage of her dad. Meanwhile, when Andrew won't give Khia money for concert tickets, a savvy Carol suggests she do some chores. To avoid working too hard, she enlists Leo's help but that proves to be more trouble than if she had just done the chores herself.

Andrew is elated when Khia invites him to a movie but when he discovers it's a horror movie, his joy quickly fades. He begins to search for anything else they can do together instead. When they notice Sebastian is trying to catch the attention of Barb, Andrew convinces Khia they should play matchmaker. Khia reluctantly agrees and they stage a meet-cute for Barb and Sebastian at Bubble Bae. Meanwhile, at Camille's office, it's fire-mageddon. It's the one time of year that she has to fire a number of people and every year it breaks her heart. Luckily, she has a sadistic Sam to help her. Unluckily, she discovers she may have to fire someone close to her. In the basement, Ramesh and Leo are having a movie marathon but Leo is distracted. There's something clogging the basement toilet - his special toilet - and he's finding it hard to focus. When Ramesh helps him unclog it, he's forced to help Leo understand what it means to grieve.

When Andrew embarrasses Leo on the walk to school, he asks his dad if he can walk alone. Andrew is nervous to say yes and wants to make sure Leo is completely ready to get to school on his own. He sets up an impossible road safety test that Leo inevitably fails, causing him to lash out at Andrew. Meanwhile, Khia reveals the other girls at school have proper bras and she wants to get one too. Camille has a hard time hiding her excitement and takes a reluctant Khia bra shopping. Khia doesn't want it to be such a big deal, but Camille is having a hard time keeping it that way. Camille eventually takes things too far, forcing Khia to push her away. At Bubble Bae, Ramesh realizes that Cathy doesn't consider him a regular customer when she saves the last croissant for something else. He stages a protest for better treatment - further putting him at odds with Cathy. An observant Barb steps in to help, much to Cathy's appreciation.
