An ex-Confederate white man finds himself assisting a freed slave ex-Union officer track down a man with a bounty on his head after the civil war.

Jemal and Corey kill a would be ambusher, and as they bring his body into town, they are thrown in jail because of an old wanted poster with Jemal's picture on it.

Corey breaks Jemal out of jail before a lynch mob hangs him. However, as they flee into the desert, they are pursued by a sheriff who isn't as above the law as he portrays.

Corey is tricked by Jemal into going over the border into Mexico to hunt his latest bounty.

Corey wins a black woman in a poker game and gives her to Jemal as a Christmas present. However, things turn out not to be quite as their appear.

Corey and Jemal are hired by a rancher to protect him and his son from being pushed off their ranch.
