Fasting, Feasting: My Eid Story

Myra, the founder of MLK Deli, has grown up in Australia celebrating Eid with traditional dishes from Uzbekistan, which her mother prepared with love. Her signature dish is an Uzbek plov, a centrepiece for any celebration in the community.

Rashedul Hasan, co-owner of Sydney's Ogni restaurant, grew up in Bangladesh, with his childhood Eid festivities marked by his mother's cooking. Today, he recreates his fond Eid memories by making his own family's version of Payesh.

Nimo, a self-proclaimed child of East Africa, reminisces with her Nigerian friend Abe about how Eid is celebrated in Africa. Her favourite dish is Mahamri, a puffed pastry which her grandmother used to make for her as a child.
